ABOUT THE CREATOR

 

Although you know him as the creator of MUSCLEHEDZ, Canadian-born artist, John Gleneicki started his art career 25 years ago as a commercial Illustrator doing illustrative work for companies such as: Labatt's, Kellogg's, Toyota, Hyundai, Mattel, and many others. As John says, with regards to MUSCLEHEDZ, I never started my art career thinking, "HEY - what I really wanna do is a cartoon series about bodybuilding!" The truth is, that was never on his radar. In fact, John wasn't really even a cartoonist at the time - It just sort of happened.

BUT HOW?!

Well - during a chance meeting in September of 1992, John came across some guys who were doing a local newspaper/magazine covering amateur bodybuilding in Ontario, Canada. John pitched them on possibly doing a couple of cartoons for their magazine every month. They liked what they saw and took MUSCLEHEDZ on, but the magazine folded after just a couple of issues due to lack of advertising dollars. So, with 30 cartoons completed, John decided to send some samples off to FLEX, Muscle & Fitness, Ironman, and Muscular Development - to see if there would be any interest. Of the four, John was most interested in FLEX and M&F, and, as luck would have it, those were the magazines that contacted him. The rest, they say - is history. After 18 years, MUSCLEHEDZ is still going strong, with the cartoon series known and appreciated all over the world.  As for HUGH MONGUS, John's main MUSCLEHEDZ character - well, he just may be one of the most famous bodybuilders ever to grace a bodybuilding stage!

So - you know him as the creator of MUSCLEHEDZ, but John has also created three other cartoon series: The CHEAP SEATS (sports), WRESTLEHEDZ (pro wrestling), and his newest series, CAGEHEDZ (MMA) - which John says, is going to be his biggest series, without a doubt.

BUT, WHAT ELSE CAN THIS CRAZY CANUCK DO??

Well - on top of all this, John has been a web designer/developer for over 12 years, working for such notable companies as LABRADA Nutrition - where he oversaw all of LABRADA's web business for over three years. John single-handedly built 6 unique websites while he worked for LABRADA, and feels he was a very important member of that company while he was there. John is also the developer of well over 100 active websites currently on the net, and new sites get added every month. To say that John is "IN DEMAND" would be an understatement. He NEVER has a shortage of work from outside sources.

YEAH - BUT WHAT ELSE HAS HE DONE???

Not to be outdone, John has also written an entire Book Series which teaches guitar players with zero experience how to properly paint their own guitars using nothing but spray cans from a hardware store. That venture is called PAINT YOUR OWN GUITAR and it's become an industry unto itself. John's book series landed him a monthly column in Guitar World magazine - where he wrote his column, FINISHING SCHOOL, for over two years.

FInally, under the PAINT YOUR OWN GUITAR umbrella, John decided to put his airbrushing skills to good use when he was hired to do some custom designs for ESP Guitars. While painting one of the designs, John let the camera's role and filmed his DVD - WICKED AIRBRUSH - Project U.S. Flamed Flag - not only doing the custom airbrush work, but also producing and editing the entire DVD. If there was ever just one man who could literally do it all, in our humble opinion, John IS that guy.

Within every MUSCLEHEDZ cartoon you see, John applies everything he's ever learned throughout his illustrious career to not only make you laugh, but to make that cartoon a quality piece of art.
